Laser Genesis for active acne is a non-invasive laser treatment that targets the sebaceous (oil) glands and the bacteria involved in acne. When oil glands become overactive, excess oil can clog pores and lead to breakouts. This treatment aims to calm that overactivity, reduce active acne, and lower the risk of post-acne scarring by supporting the skin's natural healing process.
Micro-pulses of laser energy gently heat the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis). The heat helps address the bacteria responsible for acne, reducing inflammation and redness, while a specific wavelength targets the sebaceous glands to reduce oil production. The gentle heating also stimulates new collagen production, which supports overall skin health and can assist in fading acne scarring.
Over a course of treatment, Laser Genesis can help reduce inflammatory lesions, blackheads and pustules associated with acne. It can also improve uneven skin tone, texture and pore size, gently treat general redness, assist in fading acne and other types of scarring, and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
During the procedure you will feel a gentle warming of the skin's surface, and many people describe the treatment as relaxing. Because it is non-invasive, you may notice slight redness immediately afterwards, which usually resolves within a few hours. You can apply sunscreen and makeup and return to normal daily activities straight away. This is a low downtime treatment.
Visible improvements often appear after the initial treatment, with more significant results developing over time. Plans are customised to each person, but a series of around four to six treatments, typically spaced about four weeks apart, is generally recommended for an optimal outcome. Improvements are gradual and can continue for months after the final session. Ongoing maintenance treatments are encouraged to sustain results, and outcomes vary between individuals.
A consultation determines your suitability. This treatment may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have used certain prescription acne medications in the past six months, take anticoagulant medication, or have undergone gold therapy. Caution applies for people with vitiligo, a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, or open wounds. Treatment is avoided over tattoos, permanent makeup, metal or electronic implants, and suspicious pigmented lesions, and is not performed if you are being treated for skin cancer. A minimum distance is kept from pacemakers and defibrillators.
